Wilpena Pound

There's nothing there.

We arrived at Wilpena Resort at night, and found a room no problem (yay winter!). The rooms are nice and convenient, and the resort is located right on the side of the Pound so you can just get up and go for a walk. An alternative would probably to stay in Hawker, a big city about 40 mins drive before the Pound. (Hawker is the local metropole: it's got a service station, and a convenience store/pub/restaurant/post office).

On the first day we went for a walk to the closest lookout. The walk takes us next some billabongs and through the eucalyptus forest.

Half-way to the lookout, we find the homestead: the house built by the family of farmers that originally settled in the Pound to farm sheep.

After that we drove to some other lookout, saw some birds on the way, and lots of kangaroos there.

We wanted to see the sunset there, but it was too early. We decided to go to another set of ruins, and so more kangaroos on the way. Right, they are everywhere around here.

In the ruin, a rotten smell was floating about. A kangaroo had crawled inside and died in the chimney. Yucky.

The day after, Eric and Alexia went for another walk while we took the car for a drive in the desert.

On the third day, we went to see old aboriginal paintings before getting back to Adelaide.
