Numinbah Valley, Gold Coast, Australia

July 2007

One day during our holiday we took a drive out to Numinbah Valley. To our surprise, we passed a field of highland cows — those gorgeous shaggy cows from Scotland! Who'd have thought highland cows would adapt to Australia? Granted we saw them in winter when it averaged 18 to 20c during the day (our coldest winter on record!), but they're there in summer as well when the average temperature is 35 to 40c! Crazy!

Anyway, we stopped to take some photos and say hello and then drove on for about ten minutes to do a 4km walk through a subtropical rainforest. Our destination on this walk was the Springbrook Natural Bridge — a waterfall that flows through a glow worm cave that has eroded over the centuries to form what looks like a bridge.
