Sauternes

We went to Sauternes during the four-day long weekend in May 2009, followed by a night in Arcachon and a night in Cap Ferret.

While in Sauternes, we stayed at Chateau d'Arche, thanks to Yves' brother Eric and girlfriend Alexia, who gave us a Smartbox (La route des vins) for Christmas which entitled us to a night in the chateau of our choice, a wine tour and tasting.

We arrived in Sauternes around lunchtime, after a quick detour to Cadillac, and ate at the Michelin guide recommended restaurant 'Le Saprien'.

After our wine tour, we took a drive around Sauternes and surrounding regions. We drove as far out as Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, where we stopped for a quick walk around the town centre and met a friendly little cat.

On the way home, we went in search of dinner, but the only place we found was a little pizzeria on the side of the road proudly advertising that they were under new management. Hmmm. We took a chance and ate there. It was very cheap and the food was pretty good. We counted ourselves lucky.
