Cordes-sur-ciel, France

April 30th 2006

Today was gorgeous, sunny and about 20c, so Yves and I went for a drive an hour north of Toulouse to the 12th century fortified village, Cordes-sur-ciel (The translation is: Ropes in the sky — how odd!). It's a very pretty village, high on top of a big hill, and is encircled in two rows of stone walls.

We parked the car at the bottom of a really steep hill and meandered our way up to the top of the village.

Along the way up to the top of the village we took a diversion and went up these stairs, which was like stumbling upon a piece of art with the light streaming down into the otherwise dark room.

Wisteria seems to thrive in this village!

Wouldn't you love a backyard like this? We think it was once a church.

This door opened up to a lush private garden.

Terrace at the top of the village. We stopped here and sipped wine in the late afternoon sunshine. (Well, I had wine, Yves had a beer).
