Paris in Autumn is rainy, cold and busy. For some strange reason, we went there for 5 nights for the All Saints public holidays.

While there, we caught up with friends and family, ate far too much, saw a crap movie (Match Point), went to mass at Notre Dame (to hear Yves' brother's (Marc) girlfriend sing) and did some sight seeing.

As part of our sight-seeing expedition, we walked our legs off visiting such wonderful places as the Marais, the Louvre (just the outside of course), the Arc de Triomphe, the Isle of Saint-Louis (great Berthillon ice-cream there!!), the Latin Quarter, Opera (great area for Japanese food), Madeleine, the Tuileries garden, Cluny La Sorbonne (great Belgian beer pub just down the hill from the Pantheon there — especially at happy hour!) and I don't remember what else.

On the day we were supposed to fly back home to Toulouse, Yves woke me up in a panic at 7.30am. Our flight was due for take-off at 8am. The only possible way to catch the plane would be time travel and, at the time of writing, that has yet to be invented.

So, several hours later (around 4.30pm), having had a traditional French breakfast at a cafe off rue Rivoli, a wander around Les Halles, a browse through the bookshops in Chatelet and a relaxing lunch of kebabs at our favourite kebab shop in the latin quarter, we headed out to Montparnasse and boarded the TGV for the 6-hour train journey home for an additional cost of 155 Euro. Oh well, it was an expensive and time-consuming mistake, but that last day was really worth it.
