Journal, Weekend in Vicdessos, France

July 2006

My friend Fatima and her husband, Philippe, invited Yves and I to spend a weekend away in the Pyrenees (July 21st – 23rd 2006). We stayed at their family holiday house in Vicdessos and spent time relaxing away from the summer heat of Toulouse.

We drove out separately on Friday afternoon, stopping in Foix for some supplies, and arrived an hour and a half later. Yves and I relaxed with a beer at the pub and, shortly afterwards, Fatima, Philippe and their little girl, Louisa, arrived and we went and had dinner in the garden.

The next morning, we went to a rockpool in Auzat and Yves and Philippe went for a swim. The water was very clear and refreshing! After lunch, we all had a siesta and then Yves and I took a drive out to see a lake and the scenery along the way.

On the Sunday morning, Yves and I went for a drive out to see the Dolmen which is a prehistoric standing stone (although, this one was not standing). The view from the top of the mountain was fantastic and we could even see the village of Vicdessos down below! Then we drove out to Goulier to the ski resort, where we saw cows and butterflies.

After lunch, we all took a drive out towards Ariege. We stopped to see the horses and then we went on to see some crazy people parasailing!
