Limoux

On the way back to Toulouse from Domaine de Gayda in Brugairolles, we stopped at Limoux.

We went to a place called Caves du Sieur d'Arques where we did some more wine tasting. We tried the sparkling wines that this region is famous for, the Blanquette de Limoux.

It was five-thirty when we came out of this place, arms loaded with yet more bottles of wine to lug home, and there was still plenty of daylight. We drove down the hill, parked by the river and strolled into the village square.

We were getting a bit thirsty after all the wine tasting, and it had been a big day already, so we weren't feeling too keen on sightseeing.

Instead, we stopped at a cafe on the main square for a refreshing non-alcoholic drink and sat sipping our cold drinks and watching the world go by.

As the church bells rang 7pm, we got up from our chairs and made our way back to the car.

The road home faced the sunset. A clear blue sky spanned above us and the sun was a giant pinkish-orange ball of fire in front. We passed row upon row of leafy green vines, stretching out for miles along sloping, cypress dotted fields and soft rays of sunshine threw a gold light across the landscape.
