Narelle's Frangipani Diary

From planting to flowering

The plants have grown rapidly, indoors, over winter. Less than 6 months after planting them, the White Star frangipani has doubled its size! I have high hopes that they will flower this summer.

We moved to our new flat in February, 2006, and the plants seemed to adapt quite happily to their new surrounds.

Since the initial leaves sprouted from the frangipani cuttings back in October 2005, there has been a continuous occurance of new leaves sprouting forth, averaging three new leaves every two weeks.

We decided to re-pot the White Star frangipani in March and after a month of observation I am happy to report that it went well, so a month later (mid-April) I re-potted the Pink Discrete as well.

For the re-potting, we kept the same pots and just changed the soil. I trimmed the roots a bit with scissors because I want to keep the plants fairly small and manageable for inside. I also sprinkled a bit of bonsai fertiliser onto the top layer of soil and gave it a good drenching with water. I'll leave them both for a while now, no water or anything, for about 3 weeks and then I'll resume my cup of water every week.
