Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe Festival, Scotland, August 2004

Written by Narelle

Every August, Edinburgh turns into a party centre during the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe Festival. The centre of attention is the Royal Mile, which plays host to hundreds of actors, singers, comedians, dancers, acrobats and artists from all over the world who take to the streets to promote their show.

This year, we've been to:

Danny Bhoy is an hilarious comedian and we laughed our heads off for the hour-long show. Mimirichi, on the other hand, was rubbish and I'm glad I only paid £1 to see it. It was a bunch of Ukranian clowns and all they did was rip up paper and throw it at the audience.

Jimeoin is a brilliant Irish-Australian comedian who we've seen a few times before (2002) and thoroughly enjoyed. This year was no exception. He had us in stitches, and we left the theatre at the end of the show looking like we had coat-hangers in our mouths. After that, the 6 of us headed off to the pub for a few pints and got home at around 1am when the pubs closed. The next morning I woke up with a cold from the air conditioning in the pub — why they had air conditioning on so cold when it was only 17°c outside, I'll never know. *cough, cough, sneeze, sniffle*

Podrophenia is supposed to be 4 random stand-up comedians and we're going to see them tonight (Monday, 9th Aug) at 11.45pm. It's been raining bucket loads here today and there is a harr (sea fog) that seems to have swallowed Edinburgh. Nevermind, our spirits are high and we're looking forward to a good laugh.
