French Market, Edinburgh, July 2004
By accident this morning we discovered that there was a French market being held this weekend in the Grassmarket (old town) -- so we headed in for a look and came home £40 poorer. Oops! There was a fusion of wonderful smells in the air and the street was buzzing with lots of happy people shopping in the sunshine. In the background, you could hear the callers shouting out their specials 'Allez, allez, 3 fromages 5 pounds only -- special offer, allez, allez. Camembert, fromage du chevre, very good' and the bread stand baked fresh baguettes in their stall which sent a mouthwatering smell wafting through the air.
