Favourite pubs in Edinburgh

The White Hart Inn

A non-smoking pub! This is a great little pub on the Grassmarket (opposite the Apex Hotel). It serves great haggis and Scottish beer, the staff are friendly, the setting is cosy and comfortable and you can breathe fresh air all night. Brilliant!

Nichol Edwards

This pub is in the old town near the Cowgate, and it is on 3 floors with 3 bars, danceroom, chill-out lounges, a 36 seat cinema/theatre, and a whole host of stand-up comedy and live bands. There are five different music themes throughout the club and they also serve food.

What makes this club so special is the age of the building it's in. It's virtually underground and is full of tunnels and hidden passageways. The floor has very uneven cobblestones and I think this may even be the original flooring! Watch your step if you go there, even if you've not had a single drink ;) Aside from all that, it's known as the most haunted pub in Scotland! You can find it on Niddry Street in the Old Town.

Three Sisters

Right on the Cowgate, this really large pub is best known to me for it's mass of outdoor space with loads of tables and chairs to get comfy on. It's great for a sunny summer's afternoon. It's also a great place to go if you like pubs but not the stench of cigarette smoke -- because there's so much outside space, it's easy to get fresh-ish air (well, you are still in the City Centre... so there's pollution to be considered! *grin*).

Caledonian Brewery Beer Festival

In June, the Caledonian Brewery on Slateford Road (5 minutes walk from our flat) holds a Beer Festival. This is not to be missed -- especially if it's sunny, because it's held outdoors.
Tolbooth Tavern
The Tolbooth - Cute from the outside, but never been in.
Deacon Brodie's Tavern
Deacon Brodies - One of the most touristic pubs in town?
Yves and Narelle
