Lochness
Just down from Inverness is the famous Lochness! Home of the Lochness monster. No sightings of Nessie yet, but you never know! In summer 2000, we saw a caravan set up at one end of the Loch, which belonged to scientists doing studies on the lake (looking for Nessie of course!!)
On another trip to Inverness and back later on in 2000, we went home via the other side of the Lochness, where the remains of Urquhart Castle are. The castle was destroyed in the 1600's but much of the lower floors still remain.
Apparently, the myth of Nessie started in the 1500's, when an enemy of the royals living in Urquhart Castle claimed to have seen a monster in the lake, which ate one of his soldiers...or something like that.
Occasionally when we've gone to the Lochness it has rained on and off all day and there were some amazing rainbows all over the Lochness and over the castle.
